Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted with composure for PSG to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
