Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report initial examinations show the substance was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were working "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for information.
A senior representative said the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
